I’m particularly drawn to the way light and space interact to create this stage if you will, that I can further interact with to convey this sense of detachment from the world and also some of the mental results from that. Using subtle gestures that are subtracted down to mere gazing bring the intellectual nature I have into the photo. I chose night settings on most of the images that are illuminated by fluorescent lights out of personal inspiration and interests, and because it brings a mysterious quality to the photographs.
In this series of images I came to call ‘Detached,’ I definitely explored different things that started to have a deeper meaning than I previously thought. Light, space, self, and my analytical nature all converged and this body of work came into existence by means of both intuitively photographing and developing emerging ideas.
The work is about many things all at once. To myself it is a journey in progress, when I finished I will have the answer to the real underlying question, the very question that has made me detached from the world.
Am I enlightened, or benighted?
