Lonnie Yazzie is a Native born Tempe based photographer and recent Arizona State University Graduate. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and continues to make art while also becoming more involved in the Native American artist community here in the Metropolitan area. His art focuses on the mythological creation stories of his Native tribe while also addressing more personal, cultural, and social inner conflict in the hopes that more young adults gain interest in their culture and in themselves. Along with the medium he is knowledge in, he has also spent a year in total with gallery maintenance, sitting, and curating with several other colleagues during his undergraduate studies. Yazzie started off in photography during his high school years using photography as a way of learning about the world around him. When he started branching out and experiencing more of life, he clung to his culture when moving into a city that was unfamiliar to him. His work has strong Native American cultural inspirations that he likes to study both visually and inquisitively.
